Week starting Oct 27th 2008 - The ruin starts to come down

We arrived back from Spain at the weekend and so the week starting the 27th October was the start of the demolition works. The building was very unsafe without its roof. The roof was carefully removed, dodging the rotten timbers and then the business of taking down the walls and saving the stone began.

The ruin before we started

The old ruin at Las Razes had formerly been the farmhouse with a small barn attached. It is not known how long it is since anyone lived there. When we arrived at Las Razes in 2005 it was tumbling down and over the last few years there have been more and more bits of it fall in. If we had to estimate when it was last occupied we would say probably about 70 years ago.
The ruin does have a charm, we actually loved its atmosphere and there were mixed emotions about seeing it brought down. The reality was, however, that if nothing was done it would continue to collapse and eventually all would be lost.
After its renovation, it will be loved and lived in again - it will be our new home!
